THE VIOLINIST MEETS THREE MAORI M-P.’S. [Special to “Times.”] - v: j WELLLINGTON, July 4. /M A During their stay in Wellington (i Kubelik and Madam -Kubelik were .'"4 entertained on two or three cccas- ' ions by Mr and Mrs Prouse. One of ■ tlie most interesting functions was-a ft‘l hincheon party at which Kubelik and; |l ] /VI together with Mr Schwab (Kubeliks accompanist), met three Maori members of Parliament, viz* the Hon. Mr Carroll; and Messrs ' i Heke -and G % Ngata. Both lvubeli'k &§ and Madam Ivubelik were greatly interested in Maori lore and language. They had the pleasure of listening to ."H Air ISgata’s very graphic recital of his own. poem,' “A Scene From the ' j Past,” in which an old Maori of modern, times recalls the brave days of - old. They were greatly charmed - with the swing and rytlini of the Poem. They- also listened with great f delight to Mr Alfred Hills Poi song, ■ winch was suiig by Mr George Prouse. Messrs Carroll and Ngata are sendmg the Kubeliks a number of books of Maori legends and history and ?lr ' 1 Heke has presented them with a piece of/ greenstone, that has been in his • family for five generations as a memento of their visit to New Zealand. Madame Kubelik thought she could trace a resemblance between, her own language andthat .of- tlio.Maoris.' Kubelik, I learn, was; highly delighted with his Wellington audiences, ana he states that he lias seldom play- - . ed to more appreciative and enthus- T lastic audiences.
