GOLF.

Despite tlie boisterous weather oi fast week, the links were in good order mi Saturday, the sandy, nature of the soil soaking up traces of the bonvv ruins which fell 011 Thursday and Friday. There were a large number of players, out 011 Saturday afternoon, including a fair proportion of ladies. A couple of games were got oil' in the “B” tournament. W. G. Evans (17) defeated W. 'A. J. Gibson (16), -in hollow fashion, by , up and 6 to play. Evans played very consistently, going out in 53, and taking the same number of strokes for the homeward course. This places Evans, owing to a number of players scratching, in the final for the tournament. The, other game also resulted in a runaway victory by exactly the same record, A. E. N. Smith (25) and R. Willock (14) being the players. The former went round in 111, which, with liis handicap olf, gives him a net score.of 86, which takes a lot of boating. .This is Smith’s first season at golf,, and lie has confounded the liamlieappero by the surprisingly smart manner in .which he has picked up the game. A. M. Howd-.-n and If. I). Traill had 1 friendly round, and both playon, showed good form. The former won by 0110 up. and did the eighteen boles in 89. Golfers will regret to learn that JTowden is leaving Gisborne at the end of the month, having decided to return to-'Auckland. E. A. Adair and \Y. F. J. Anderson went round together, the game resulting-' in- favor of the foam or by 112—118.-

The captain (J. H..8u11) did a round with bis son Noel, who is following in bis father's footsteps no far as golf is concerned, and promises to develop into a good player. Other .plovers out were: W. • B; Willock. W. N. Barron. \V. ]{. Barker. G. Willock, P. Barker, J. Howie, C. Fenwick. H. Barker, J. M.• Curtis, and G. Smith. Mrs. Traill and Miss deLauiour gave afternoon tea. On Saturday afternoon next a men’s foursome will be played. Those wishing to take part are asked to hand in their names to the secretary (Mr. .T. M. Curtis), not later than Thursday, in order that- handicaps may be adjusted.
