Moffett, Christian and Katrina Hansen, and Andrew and Edith Matlicson, charged with having unlawfully sold, ginger wine containing an unlawful quantity of alcohol. Moffett was tlie manufacturer and the others were sellers of tlie wine. The Magistrate took a lenient view of the case, and fined Hansen £l, convicted and discharged Matheson, and ordered Moffett to pay all costs. He remarked that the case was not on a par with the selling of grog on the sly, but was rather one of carelessness in trade. PALMERSTON N., June .9. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court Were commenced to-day, •before Mr. Justice Cooper. The business was limited to three cases; one of .assault, one of perjury, and one of criminal assault. Edward Pilkington, of Pahiiatua, was found guilty of common' assault, and was remanded till to-morrow morning for sentence. Daniel McCurdy, cab driver, of Palmerston, was charged with haying committed perjury at an inquiry into a fire which destroyed his stables The perjury was alleged to have been committed in ireapect to a. statement concerning the quantity of chaff burnt in the fire. A verdict of not guilty was -e----turned, land accused was discharged.
