PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. (Press Association.) NAPIER, Juno 9. Tho Hayvke’s Bay Provincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union was held at Hastings to-night. There was a good attendance, and the Hastings and Takapau branches were represented. Mr. H. M. Sanders (chairman), in a short opening address,, said he thought that the shearers’ ayvard would bo tho cause of farmers squeaking before long. He saw no reason yvliy the question of pay for farm laborers could not be settled in some manner as that of tho shearers. ■_ Mr. H. M. Sanders yvas re-elected president, and Mr. J. Beatson yvas elected delegate to the Colonial Conference. Among remits carried were the folloyving: That the Government be urged to settle the native land difficulty by. applying tho principle of the Land for Settlement Act to all unimproved native land, but to exercise a proper and philanthropic finance by paying interest only on tho proceeds. That the’ Provincial -Executive aet'ii.s an- election' committee at the forthcoming election- and, with the -assistance of bra noli committees, select from the (persons nominated as candidates (for -the Hawke’s (Bay constituencies candidates favorable to the platform of the Union; members to be advised to.vote for -and make every effort to secure the return of candidates so selected. That the Colonial Executive Ibe requested to urge the Government in future to allow applicants for land all options of tenure provided in the Land for Settlements Act, whether ordinary Crown lands or land resumed for settlement purposes.
