THE PURCHASE OF LAND. (Press Association.) - WELLINGTON, Juno 4. The Supremo Court was occupied to-day in hearing the civil case Leigh v. Strand. Tho plaintiff, John M. Leigh, sheepfarmor, of Lower H-utt, according to the statement of claim, instructed Win. T. 'Shuml, timber merchant, of Lower liutt, to purchase him certain lands, comprising altogether 22 acres 1 rood 5 perches, at a price not to exceed £2OO per acre, and plaintiff agreed to pay defendant for his services 25 per cent, of tho profits plaintiff might make on a re-sale. Tlio purchase was arranged at £2OO per acre, and plaintiff paid £4624 for tlio properties, and also paid defendant £630 for Jits services. Subsequently plaintiff discovered that defendant had got the properties from tho vendors for £2960 and appropriated the balance of £1064 to Ins own use. Ho therefore claimed the £1664 and the £630 paid to defendant for his services, a total of £2294. The defence was that the defendant had bought the properties for himself and re-sold them to the plaintiff, and that the plaintiff 'understood that defendant said the payment of £630 was in. respect of another transaction. A number of witnesses were examined. The case was not finished when the Court rose for the day.
