A STABBING CASE.
A SAILOR INJURED. THREE MEN BEFORE THE COURT. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Juno 4. Joseph Zimmerman, Gusav Nauzaak, and Eugen Fall Haase, three Gorman seafaring men, appeared on remand before Mr. Riddell, S.M., this afternoon on u charge “that,on the 30th May, with intent to d 0 bodily harm to one,, Athol Zani, they did actual bodily harm to the said Athol Zani.” The charge referred to an affair on the Jessie Burns, a cargo steamer, unloading ut the Railway- wharf on Saturday last, when Athol Zani, a Greek sailor, was found wounded sp severely that, he had to be removed to the hospital. Elias Deni'trisos. a Greek sailor of the Jessie, Burns, stated-through an interpreter, that lie was watchman on "the steamer from 6 p.m, on the 30th to 6 a.m. on the 31st "May,. He saw Zimmerman, coming aboard about half-past nine with another man. Zimmerman called the witness a name and went.forward to the boatswain’s cabin, and there was drinking and singing -until after II o'clock. J tom the bridge the witness heard a noise below the deck almost underneath where ho was standing. He went forward to shg what it was, aiuf ho saw the boatswain at the door of the loro-castlo. The boatswain had a knife in his hand, and told him there had been a light. Witness went into tho forecastle, where ho saw, Zani on his bunk. Zani then went on deck and spoke to the boatswain. Witness followed, and heard Zimmerman come up calling Zani. ZaTii said to Zimmerman*, “I will let you know tomorrow what I am, when you are sober.” Zimmerman got out the knife and stabbed Zani. Fall Haase said to Zani, who moved towards hull, “Don’t come any closer, or I’ll stab von.” The next thing witness saw was another man named Nauzaak holding Zani clown. Zimmerman, did the stabbing. The hearing * was adjourned till to-morrow foT the appearance of Zani.
