WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL
((Special to “Times.”) Tho usual monthly meeting of the Waiapu County Council was held on Thursday last, there being a full ingAfter the minutes of t-lie previous meeting were read and confirmed, the incoming correspondence was received and considered ias follows: From the Chief Engineer of lloads, Wellington, forwarding copy of Or-der-iu-Council declaring tho Poroporo Valley and Waipiro-Alata roads to be county roads. —Received. From the District Road Engineer, Napier, stating that the roads referred to above have been handed over to the Council for maintenance.—Received.
From the Chief Engineer of Roads. Wellington, forwarding a copy of Air’. AfoAfillan’s report upon the site of the proposed bridge over tho Waiapu river.—Considerable discussion took place -on tho matter. The reporc was unfavorable to the Tiki Tiki site, of which tho Council approved, mul which would bo hi ken ucl vantage of hv all the travelling public. Tho IR'PCr site, which was favored by Air. McMillan, would, it was shown, necessitate an extra five miles travelling by the public, and would necessitate, an amount being spent which would bring tho cost up to fully tho ?, t ?J 0 . u !|*, t] >e cost of n bridge at Tiki Pi It., and if tho Tiki Tiki site aas not used for tho bridge tho travelling public would still take the risk of crossing the river on horseback, and the loss of life would not he lesnTfil -A^T aS n Uml;etl out *» th© renoit that the Government could not be recommended to subsidise tho bridge at Tilt, Tiki.
