Tho Department of Industries ami Commerce has received the following c iblcgram from the High Commissioner:—“There has been no -alteration in the mutton market since last week. Shipments now arriving are very email, but the prospects -arc favorable. Following are current quotations: Canterbury mutton JJil, North Island 3Jd, River Plate- 3',d. The hmb market is firm, unit there is. a geod demand for all lamb. Canterbury brands are quoted ait' s}d, and other than Canterbury at old. Tho beef market is dull. Hindquarters are quoted at 3jid, forequarters 3d. The nutter market is steady, and Home suplies are increasing. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 109 s (nominal), Dansh 110 s, Siberian 100 s per cwt. The cheese market is dull, and declining, and Canadians are hurrying forward,supplies. New Zeal'll id white makes are quoted at 00s, and colored at 575. Canadian makes -at 48s. The hemp market is very weak, with nothing doing. Following are quotations:, Good, fair grade on spot £2O, fair grade on spot £23 10s, fair current inanila on spot £24 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is firm, and bfiyers are not keen to do business. There are light stocks on hand, and bright, clean. 171 b seed is quoted at 80s. The wool sales closed with improved competition. The market .is stronger, -but prospects arc uncertain, as a largo quantity is held over. Following are the estimated values: Superior merino lid to Is OJd, medium BJd to 12jd, inferior sid to- Bd,-fino crossbreds (all grades) lOd to ; ls, medium 7Jd to 9}d, coarse Sd to 8U1.”
