A return of the value of grass-sood supplied to settlers by tho Government as a result of the serious bush fires early dn the year show that the amount expended was over £25,000. Tlie details are: Auckland, 201 settlers, value of seed £7837; Hawke’s Bay, 8 settlers. £133; Taranaki. 102, qiu'i £1515; AVellington, 319, and £13,223; Nelson, 44, and £1023; Marlborough, 21 and £1681; Southland, 1 and £l7 10s. Tho value of seed sown on Crown lands was £4349. Of this Auckland absorbed £496, Hawke’s Bay 1254, Taranaki £4O, AVellington £578, Nelson £440, Marlborough £ll3B.
