MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS
The Hon. James Carroll was in town for an hour or two yesterday and in answer to a “Times” reporter said that he was feeling much better and the rest at home was doing him good. The Hon. James AlcGowan yesterday morning paid ail informal visit to the Gisborne High' School and the Technical School, where he saw the children at their lessons, and was particularly interested 'in the cookery class. Subsequently tlie Alinister was waited upon by a deputation from the Law Society, and conducted over tho Supreme Court, building, where the inadequacy of accommodation was fully represented. Besides devoting some time to departmental affairs, the Hon. Air. AlcGowan received a deputation, concerning the AVharekopae road, in connection with which assistance, is desired, to convert several miles of a track into a dray road. The Alinister gave the deputation a sympathetic reply. In the afternoon Air. AlcGowan accompanied by Air. W. R. Jourdaiii, secretary of "the Scenery Preservation Board, Mr. T. ,N. Brodriek, District Land Officer, and. the Town Clerk, Air. R. D, B. Robinson, drove out to the proposed scenic reserve at AVailiirere and expressed himself as delighted with the beauty of the falls. He ■will spend to-day in leasure, and will return to AVellington by tho s.s. Waikare to-morrow.
THE PRIME MINISTER.
VISITING THE SOUTH ISLAND. Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 29. The Prime Minister has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner (the Hon. W. P. Reeves) who represented the Dominion at the International Telegraph Conference at Lisbon: “The submission of code books to the international conference will be purely voluntary and will not exclude existing codebooks from use.” The Premier adds “This I am sure will bo very satisfactory to those who use the code in conducting tlieir correspondence by telegraph.” _ ’ The Prime Minister, who will probably be accompanied by Lady Ward, will leave for Dunedin to-morrow night. On Tuesday he will be at the opening of the A. and P. Show in that city and on the following day lie will unveil a fallen soldiers memorial in Invercargill. On liis way back to Wellington, Sir Joseph will deliver a political address at Christchurch.
