VISIT OF DOMINION TEAM. The Dominion team of bowlers, re-turning-home from their Australian tour, called in at Gisborne yesterday, and played a match against five rinks of iocal bowlers. . On the arrival of the s.s. Wimmera, Mr. W. Pettie, the President of the Gisborne Bowling Club, went out,in the tender, and officially, welcomed' the visitors, who, accompanied by a number of ladies, came ashore and adjourned to the Gisborne green. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. D. Lysnar), who was introduced by Mr. Pettie, welcomed the' limiting bowlers to Gisborne, and-trusted that, they would have a pleasant day. He alluded to the success of the tour recently concluded .by the Dominion team, and also to the' records held by local bowlers, humorously adding tliat he could not say that lie wished the visitors to win on the present occasion.
Mr. W. Pettie, on behalf of the two local bowling clubs, extended a hearty welcorrie to the visitors. He also hoped they would enjoy thoir visit to Gisborne, and also added that he lo.oke.d forward to having the Commonweoalth. team' include Gisborne in its next tour.

Total ... 92 Total ... 113 During the afternoon the green presented a very lively appearanco. There was’ 'quite a largo crowd of spectators, including a number of ladies, whilst tlfc congregation of bowlers was one of the.-largest seen on the green. Afternoon tea was provided by the President of the club, and was handed round by the ladies, The play was interesting throughout, but the weather conditions were not conducive to very high-class play. A liotablo feature of the game was that on the 13th head each of the visitors’ rinks, except one, was behind, and from that point onward improved their positions. Taken all round the local men were by no means outclassed, there being little to cliooso individually between the players, and it was chiefly duo to the excellent play of Gohlstone, Hain, and Bentley tliat the visiters were victorious. Tlie visitors continued their journey South by tlie AVimmcra last night. There was a largo gathering on tho wharf at 7 p.m. to wish them farewell, and three hearty cheers were given for the team, on the call of Mr. Pettie. As tho launch left the wharf, the departing visiters lustily returned the compliment, and the local bowlers dispersed, each truly feeling that a pleasant day had been spent, and one that would mark an epoch in the history of bowling in the district.
