SYDNEY GROWERS PROTEST. GOVERNMENT BIOLOGIST EXPLAINS. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 6. In reference to tho cable message from Sydney stating that fruit growers in New South Wales arc protesting against tho .’Dominion s icgulatious in regard to 'the importation of citrui fruits, Mr T. AV. Kirk, F. 1.5., Government -Biologist, said the regulations required a certificate stating that the -fruit came from an orchard -within a -mile of which tiie -fruit fly is not known to exist. Surely Australia will not .admit that rt has no orchards in existence which could comoly with this requirement ? With regard to tho Minister's threats and refusals, Mr Kirk pointed put that most of the Australian States some' time ago absolutely p-rohnbitecl the importation of potatoes from New Zealand, while Tasmania absolutely prohibited all vegetation coming m from New Zealand excerpt cut flowers and -willow cuttings. ’As -for -any relaxation of -tho regulation, Mr Kmc said that was a matter -for the -Minister’s consideration.
