Recent 'burglaries in Auckland would' seem to indicate that- a gang is at work. lOn Tuesday night Mr Gerald Bell, hatter, carrying on business in Kar.angahape road, had a sensational encounter with a man in liis bedroom. He was awakened by the flashing of a bulis-eye lantern and immediately grappled with the burglar. In a pocket book on -the dressing table was £27 in notes and some gold was in- a coat pocket and a quantity of wilver in a vest. The ill an had taken the £27 in 'the pocket book and after.au exciting struggle, he escaped through .the Window.
