THE DUNEDIN FATALITY.

NAUTICAL COURT’S INQUIRY. A NEGLIGENT CAPTAIN. (Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May o. Mr Graham, S.M., • delivered the Nautical Court’s decision concerning the collision of tlie launch Matakana and the steamer Lady Roberts on the 18th April. The Court found Joseph Coddoi, master of the launch, guilty of negligence in the navigation of the lauuch, inasmuch as lie entrusted the steering to irresponsible persons, and did not keep a proper look-out. The collision was solely duo to an error of judgment on the part of Coddoi, in suddenly porting the helm. The Court considers Coddoi justly liable to pay the costs of the inquiry, but, seeing that he is a poor man and lost the boat, which was his sole means of livelihood, the Court leaves this to tlie favorable consideration of the Government.
