DEATH OF LEGISLATOR.
>(ji J. BENNETT, 31, P. Press Association. GORE, Mav 3. died at his residence, Raes Junction, died at his residence, Baes Junction, this morning. Deceased was a leading figure in the Beaumont district and was closely identified with tho public life of the place. 'He wa6.a member of the Tuapeka County Council since its inception in the seventies. - He first entered the House in 1899 when he defeated Messrs Rawlings and Fraser. In 1902 he defeated 'Mr R. Gilkinson by 6-1 votes and was successful again over the same opponent at last election bv close on 1000 votes. He arrived in the district from Victoria in 1863 and after a year or two of gold, fields experience took up an agricultural and pastoral property at ltaes Junction which he has held since. ; (He was a native of Forfarshire and emigrated /to Victoria in 1854. He was 78 years of age and leaves a family of three sons -and one daughter.
