A number of Gisborne gold prospectors left for tho Urewera country yesterday.
No delivery will bo made by letter armors this afternoon (AVedncsday). To-morrow afternoon a usual delivery will be made.
Tho latest additions to tho telephone exchange are: 469, S. AVootou, baker and pastrycook, Gladstone Road; 471, G. It. AVyllie, Kaiti.
An inset of interest to tho electors, and setting forth the principal planks in Dr. AVillinms’ platform for tho office of Mayor, is circulated with tho “Times” this morning.
Thero were only two nominations received yesterday for tho seats on the Pouawa Road Board, Messrs T. Frazer and AV. G. Maclaurin, who wero declared duly elected.
Our AVellington correspondent says tlio Mayoral contest between tho Hon. T. AV. Hislop and Mr. Aitken M.P. is! intensely keen, and the polling will easily be tho heaviest on record.
The statement in our issuo of Monday that Air. S. E. Paviour had been run over by a motof-cor was not quito correct. It nppoars that Mr. Paviour was proceeding to town by the ’bus. When on the AVhataupoko bridge the horses became frightened at a motorcar, and Air. Paviour wont to their heads. On returning to his seat, on tho dark side of tho ’bus, his foot slipped off the step, and the front wheel of tho vehicle passed over his light leg, causing painful injuries. HQe is under Dr. Collins’ care, and is still confined to his bed.
The annual meeting of the Gisborne Orchestral Society was held in Townley’s Hall last evening. There was a fair .attendance, and the conductor, Air. Al. Foster, occupied the chair. The secretary, Air. J .Chrisp, readtlio report and balaiice-filioet, winch was adopted. The financial position of the socioty is good, and it has assets to tho value of £37. Twelve instrumentalists who assisted the society last year woro elected members, and eight'new members were proposed. It was resolved that the first practice should be held on AVednes - day, Aloy 6th, at Townley’s Hall, commencing at- 7.45 ,p.m. The following notice of motion was given by Air J. Chrisp, “Tlnit this society ()© placed upon a subscription basis.” This will come before tlio members at the first practice. The election of officers resulted: Conductor, Air. M. Foster ; sec. and trews.. Air. J. Chrisp; Alessrs AI. Foster, J. Chrisp, J. Brown, C. Adair, and F. Pwlairet were re-elect-ed .as tlio committee.
