SERIOUS ACCIDENT AVERTED.
ATTEMPT TO DERAIL A TRAIN. . tf (Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, April 20. There was very nearly a serious accident on tho Mauawatu railway line to a night train on Friday, a mile and a half north of Otaki. Some railway sleepers had been placed across the track, but luckily the obstruction was noticed in time and the train promptly pulled up, not, however, before the cowcatcher w 7 as damaged through coming in contact with the sleepers.
