Concerning Mr. R. P. Clarkson, ALA., who has been appointed Director of tho Napier Technical School, tlio Hnwera Star of a recent date says:— iA very enjoyable gathering was held in tlio Normnnby Town Hall last night, when between 70 and 80 teachers anil friends of Air. R. P. Clarkson assembled to bid that gentleman good-bye. The gathering-was verv representative of the teaching profession within a . radius of 25 miles of Normanby, and the highest compliments wero paid to Mr. Clarkson. Air. Thomas, of the Elthnm school, presided. Daring an interval 'Mr. -Clarkson watt presented, with a travelling bag ami mg, and Messrs. C. E. Alajor, M.P., Cargill (member of the -Education Board), and O’Doa (Paten) spoke in terms of wannest appreciation of the-guest of the evening. Not the least interesting reference was that by Air. Alajor, who conveyed, on behalf of the School Committee, their regret at Air. Clarkson’s departure. Mr. Clarkson feelingly replied, and in the course of his remarks said lie was equally touched that morning by the gift of a Maori mat by a native child, in recognition, as the parent said, of Air. Clarkson’s kindness. He was not sure that he had been as kind as bad been said, but if lie were beginning here again ho -would -be more considerate of native children.
