ROWING

POVERTY BAY CLUB. Races in connection with the single sculls handicap, for a prize jj resell ted by Mr. H. Sandlant, were advanced another stage yesterday evening, when J. Scott and R' .Huston tried conclusions. The former, with a start of 3sec. from his opponent, won by a length after a good race. This evening F. D. Fox (22sec) and F. E. Porter (20sec) will be the first contestants, and if possible another race will be rowed. GISBORNE CLUB. Tlie semi-final of tho maiden sculling competition was rowed off last evening, when E. Luttrell met B. Bright, who had entered without any preparation for the contest at the last mojnent, in order to make up tlie number. A .good race resulted to the junction of the rivers, where Bright had the misfortune to capsize, leaving Luttrell to paddle in an easy winner. The filial will be rowed to-night between E. Luttroll and L. Gideon.
