Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 13. The High Commissioner’s cable/ dated London, April 11, is as follows: The market is quiet, but holders are • firm. The arrivals from all parts since January 1, show a decrease of 55,000 carcases over the corresponding period of last year, and small shipments arc expected. Light weights are extrmemly scarce and a brisk demand prevails. The following are current quotations: Canterbury mutton 41 d, North Island 4§d, Iliver Plate 4Jd. The lamb market is firm. Heavy weights can obtain a small premium. Canterbury brands are at oj{d, other than Canterbury s|d. The beef market is firm. The stock of New Zealands brands on hand is light. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. There is a moderate demand, which is purely speculative. Hindquarters are quoted at 3’d, forequarters 3Jd. The butter market is steady, beat quality being scarce .and' in good demand. Choicest New Zealand butter is at Ills, Australian 107 s. Argentine 107 s, Danish 109 s, Siberian 106 s. The cheese market is quiet, the tendency being in favor of buyers. White makes are at 60s, and colored, of which there is 'a small supply, 62s per cwt. The hemp market is rising. There is a. better demand for good fair grade at £26 10s, fair grade £25 10s. The cocksfoot market is quiet, buyers not being keen to do business. Bright, clean 171 b seed, 80s per cwt. The wool market is depressed and weaker, with a downward tendency. The following arc current quotations for Bradford tops: 36’s (low cross-bred) Bd, 40’s (low cross-breds) 9d, 44’s (medium cross-breds) lid, 50’s (half-breds) Is--2d, 56’s (quarter-breds) Is Bd, 60’s (merinos) Is lid.
