Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited report on stock sale held at Matawhero, Thursday, April 9tli. A\ 7 ith tlio return of fine weather the attendance was larger than has been the case for some weeks past, and a considerable amount of business was put through. SHEEP. Our entry comprised 4,634 of which we sold 3,052. There was an excellent demand for fat sheep which also formed a considerable entry. Good lines of ewes and voting stock met with brisk competition; aged ewes suffering considerably in demand. Tho sale, however, may be considered a satisfactory one. Following are tlio day’s quotations: —2-tooth wethers 12s, fat wethers 14s 3d, to 15s; cull ewes, ‘6s 4d to 6s 6d; five-year-old ewes, 9s to 10s 6d; whilst a really good line made 11s lOd; 2-tooth owes, 12s; fat ewes (light weights), 10s 6d to 11s; better 6orts, 12s 7d to 13s 9d ; at which latter price we sold a draft from Mr. J. D. Burgess’s Hangaroa property. Shorn lambs (medium) made 6s. Lambs in wool— a good line—9s. . PIGS. AA 7 e had a small entry. AA T eaners made 9s. CATTLE. AA 7 o yarded 280 and sold 196, tho entry for- tlie most part being steers. AA 7 e had a mob of about 100 from Motu which had tlio misfortune to pass through the recent heavy weather and came into the yards looking thin and empty. These mule, for 3-year olds, from-£4 4s to £4 7s 6d, and steers in forward condition £6. CALVES. . ’ Calves were -a fair entry Small calves made 11s to 17s; better grown lots 20s: to 21s. Our next sale will be held oil Thursday, 16tli inst. for which we already have a considerable entry, including 2,00 prime 2-tooth wethers which will well repay inspection.
