THE MISFORTUNES OF A FEMALE IMMIGRANT, “WOULD TO GOD I COULD DEAL WITH THE MEN.” Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 1. A young woman named May Curtain appeared before Mr Kettle, S.M.. at the Police Court to-day on various charges of theft. A pathetic story was unfolded. Accused is an orphan, and came out as an immigrant to take up a position as lady-help in an Auckland family, but a fellow-immigrant induced her, oil arrival, to live with him as liis wife. Shortly afterwards he deserted her,and she went to Thames as a barmaid, subsequently going to Napier. Air. Singer, who appeared for the girl, m ule an appeal for her to be handed over to friends who were anxious to look after her, anti take her where she would be free from those who bad ruined her. The Magistrate: “Would to God I had power to deal with the men who have ruined her!” He added he would decide as to what shoullcl be done with the girl. Perhaps it 'would be best to hand her over to tho Door of Hope if room could be wade for her,
