Mr. H. H. DeCosta leaves for tho South to-day, en route for Alelbqurno ami Sydney via the Bluff. He" will bo absent about- two months.
Air. Robert Tlielwall has been appointed secretary of the Poverty Bay Sheep Dog Trial Club, vice Air. Dunc in Cameron, resigned. ,
Captain James Fosrbes, 'the popular commander of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s Ttirakina, has been made a Knight of tlio First Order of St. Olaf by the King of Norway, in recognition of service rendered by him in rescuing eight of the crew of a Norwegian whaler, lost off the Crozuts. The King of England lias granted Captain Forbes permission to wear the decoration of the order.
Air. E. Galliclian, organising secretary of the Liberal Association, leaves for Auckland by the AVaikare this morning. Air. Coustin, who acts as representative of Air Hay, engineer to the Borough waterworks, will arive from Dunedin this morning, and immediately proceeds to Te Arai to inspect the ( damage done by the floods last week. Miss 'Morgan, who is relieving in the secondary department at the Gisborne school, pending the arrival of Aliss Hunt, who has been recommended for appointment to the Board, arrives from Napier this morning. Air. Charles Gray, of AVaioliika, lias announced himself as a candidate for the vacant seat of Cr. H. Kenway on the Cook County Council. It is understood that the resignation of Air. Robjolins, as .instructor of tho Napier Technical School, lias been accepted, and that Air. R. P. Clarkson, M.A., at present headmaster of the Normandy School, who was second oil the list- when Air. Robjolins was appointed, will be chosen to fill' the vacancy.. -
