GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE.
AMOUNTS TO NEARLY £15,000.

WELLINGTON, March 30. Up to the present 248 burnt-out settlers in the Wellington Land District have been furnished by the Stato with grass-seed of a total value of £9955. Applications for assistance close to-morrow. The’Wellington district appears to have suffered most .from tho fires, judging by the applications for assistance. About twenty settlers in Hawke’s Bay have been Veliev &d • Up to March 19th there had been forty cases (representing £1500) dealt with in Auckland, 93 in Taranaki (involving £1300), 16 in Marlborough (£1400), and 31 in Nelson (£800). Of course these totals will be considerably increased by the additional applications which have been received since the 19th inst-.
