INVERCARGILL OPINIONS. REFUTATION OF NEWSPAPER STATEMENTS. Tress Association. INVERCARGILL, March 30. The Mayor and two leading business and professional men have signed a statement drawn up by His Worship tho Mayor in regard to the result ot 110-license here. The statement declares:— . 1. That no-license has no detrimental influence on the value of property. 2. That public order in the streets is greatly improved, persons under the influence of drink seldom being seen. 3. That the moral tone has necessarily improved. 4. That in tho best interests of the growing youth they would not like to see licenses restored. 5. That the reform can be recommended to other places tor This statement is made by the Mayor in reply to anonymous assertions regarding the above points appearing in various -newspapers in the Dominion. The signatories who support the Mayor include wellknown medical men and solicitoi and leading evangelical ministers, most ot the wholesale merchants, all newspapers proprietors, many educational authorities, and a representative or every branch of civil and commercial life.
