ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

A REAIANDED PRISONER. Press Association. PALMERSTON N., March 17. Shortly before 10 o’clock this morning some sensation was caused at the police station by the discovery that a prisoner named Edward Jones, alias Johns, who was yesterday convicted for assault on a little girl at Ashhurst, had to cut - hie throat. Te man was in the prisoners’ yard with six other prisoners, -and when found was kneeling down, bleeding at the throat. The wound was caused by a piece of tin, about two inches in length. Medical aid was called, and the man was taken to the hospital, when it was found that his injuries were not serious, and he is progressing satisfactorily. The affair was announced in the Supreme Court when the prisoner was supposed to he brought up. for sentence, and Air. Justice Cooper remanded the prisoner for a time, also directing that an examination as to his mental faculties be held.
