EAST COAST POLO ASSOCIATION.
Yesterday the annual tournament under the auspices of the East Coast Polo Association was terminated with a very successful and enjoyable day’s sports. A match was played between tho Mangaheia team, which proceeds to Wellington to play for the Seville Cup, and a scratch team. The teams were as follows:—Mangaheia: A. B. Williams 1, Geo. Reynolds 2, R -O. Murphy 3, J. R. Murpliy (back). Scratch team: M. Murphy 1, T. Sherratt 2, R. K. Murphy 3, R. Sherratt (back). After a good fast game tho scratch team won by 6 goals to 3. The Polo Cup, over four furlongs, was decided on the Park racecourse, Mr. R. Sherratt acting as starter. Eight ponies started. Mr. Busby s pony led for.a good distance, but Mr. R. Reynolds’ Cigarette (12.7) led into the straight. Here Mr. K. &• Vdliams’ Star (12.9) put in a hot challenge, and narrowly missed winning, Cigarette winning by about six inches, with Mr. J. Rutledge’s Kelly (12.2) several lengths away third. After the decision of the Cup an adjournment was made to Makauri, where general sports were carried out. Following are thb resulits:— Bending Race—M. Murpliy 1, A. B. Williams 2; Flag Race—T. Sherratt 1, R. R. Sherratt 2; Polo Ball Race —G. M. Reynolds 1, R. C. Murphy 2; Threading the Needle Race Miss Clark 1, Miss E. Williams 2; Cigar Race—J. R. Murphy 1, T Sherratt 2 ; Whistling Race—A. B. Williams 1, M. R. Murphy 2. After a few remarks by Mr. Sydney Williamson, the well-known polo player, Mrs. R. Sherratt presented tho prizes to the various winners.
