CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
The weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held jit the' British Empire Hotel last evening, Air. H. E. Alaude presiding. It was decided, oil the motion of Air. Grinlinton, to devote the next meeting of tlie executive to discussing the finances of the Association, and to request Air. O. R. Olsen, lion. sec. of the Cricket Fund Committee, to call a meeting of that body to co-operate. The use of the ground was granted to the Alangatu and AVaingake clubs for a-.' match on Friday next. It was decided to approach the Poverty Bay Rugby Union in regard .to horses and sheep trespassing on the Domain. . Final arrangements were made m connection with tlite annual match against Tolaga and Tokomaru clubs, to, be played at Tolaga Bay to-mor-row. The following players were selected to make the trip:—Lang, Monk, Gibson (2), Burke, Hill, 44 atfk (2), Dovle, Ferris, Russell. It was resolved that the match re Rau v. Union, abandoned on Thursday last owing to the rain, be played at the end of the present round. It was also decided that the question of the upkeep of the turf wicket be gone into at the next nieeting. Ail estimate of the financial result of the entertainment in -aid of the funds was submitted by the secretary, and whilst it showed a fair profit, the result did not obtain the end desired, that of freeing the Association from debt. It was decided that an attempt bo made to obtain further assistance.
The following will represent Common, Shelton, and Co. in their annual match against uliicii wilt take place on 4’ictorn Domain to-morrow:—Hallaniore, Brown, Baxter, Grinlinton, Roderick (2), 1 urlctt (2), Uridge, Alaude, Bowman; emergencies, Elisor, Cramp, 44 . At a meeting of the 'Cricket Association it was announced that the profits from the matches against the Englishmen in V ictona totallecl £2218. The treasurer estimates that £2500 is still wanted lo make up the guarantee of £2OOO, Victoria’s share of tho deficiency being £I2oU.
