THE TE ORANGA SCANDAL.
FURTHER EVIDENCE., Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 6. The principal witness at the Ta Oranga Home inquiry to-day was Aliss Alargaret Early, who recently resigned from the position of matron of the Samaritan Home in Christchurch, Her evidence dealt entirely with the action taken by the matron of To Oranga (Airs. Branting), to get the custody of a girl who had been lodged in the. SamaritaD Home for a year. Aliss Early protested against the girl being returned to Te Orange* and she was suspended for declining to carry out tho instructions of the then chairman, to facilitate the .ransfer. Aliss Early said that it had been arranged- to send the girl to a suitable situation-, and she considered ■that- tiie transfer would not be iu her best interests. Another witness, Nurse Alorris, formerly of the Samaritan Home, said that the girl had a horror of Te Oranga. She was very much surprised to learn that the matron had received letters couched in most- affectionate terms from t]je girl. The inquiry was adjourned till 3Ion« day next.
