ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.

RETURN OF THE NIMROD.

PASSENGERS’ ACCOUNT OF THE TRIP. Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 6. Dio Nimrod arrived oJf the Heads at 2.30 this afternoon after a run of 13 days from the Antarctic regions. Tho passengers wero Dr. Mitchell, Messrs Mackintosh and Cotton, who wero landed at Port Chalmers.

Air. Aiaokmiosh met with a serious - accident, which, it is feared, may result in the loss of ono eye. A fish hook at the end of a lino was hanging from tho hood of tho companion ladder, and when going below Mr. Afac'kintosh brushed against it, with tho result that the barb entered his eyeball. Willi this exception everything, seems to have gone wonderfully well in spite of storms met with. The ponies are reported to have stood the voyage remarkably well, and as far as could lie judged wero shaping in excellent maimer. Members of tho expedition are said to be in good fettle, and hope seems high in the camp. When the Nimrod arrived at her southerly destination, the harbor was blocked with ice, which, however, cracked and parted, and came floating out in masses, so that in an incredibly short space of time tho entrance was comparatively clear, and the Nimrod was enabled to pick her way in. The landing of the expedition and supplies and implements seems t have been effected without grave mishap, and the first camp was made at a reasonable distance from the landing place. It appears that the camp (the party took their own hut with them) is as cosy and convenient as possible, under- tho circumstances. Dr. Aiitchell and Alessrs Alackintosh and Cotton left for Lyttelton this afternoon, and the Nimrod is expected to reach Lyttelton to-morrow evening. The passengers informed the press that no information could he giveu until the arrival of the Nimrod at Lyttelton.
