POVERIY MY TURF CLUB. ANN I AL -MEETING. SECOND DAY. the Poverty .Bay Turf Club s annual race meeting was concluded yesterday. Some very good racing was witnessed, and some close finishes boro testimony to the accuracy of the handicapping. the bookmakers were again m evidence, and appeared to be prospering. The \ ir.a String Band -played a number of selections on the lawn. The officials all worked energetically together, and everything went oil satisfactorily. Themeeting was in every way very successful. there being no protest of any description. Tile totnlisntor investments for the tiny were .1*7315, as against £7105 for the second day of last year, an increase of £153. From an even start all kept together along the hack, each running well. Before reaching the turn Clirysophrase was seen to forge a little (head, and she steadily increased the advantage. Lady Rohina was next, with Erin last. ’ Chrysophrase entered the straight- with a commanding lead, and won eas.dv by -three lengths from Lady Rohina. Time, l min 32 2-fxsec. Reservoir got the best of the start, and for the first part of the distance was responsible for the pace, but at the first hurdle he fell right over, and his rider (J. Jones) had a very narrow escape. At the same hurdle No Shot ran off, and then returned to essay the jump. He then followed the others a long distance behind. Passing the stand Kaipetipeti and To Raimi were racing neck and neck, with Matakokiri some distance in the rear. The position remained miiltered along the back stretch, -but before reaching the turn To Raimi managed to shake oil bis opponent, but lie lost a lot of ground at the second to last hurdle, and Kaipetipeti came on nicely and won in a ealiter. Matakokiri_ being a long wayoff. Time, 2min 57 3-3 sec. Second Hick Flat Handicap, of -50 sovs; second horse 10 sovs.—7 furlongs. Mr. M. Johnson’s eh g Dan Leno, 8.4 (Davis) 1 Mr. R. From the start, Spate led the field by a length and a half for a short distance, but Glen Afric caught- up ind assumed command, -but his stay there was brief. The Stripper ran well towards the leaders, blit at the back Dan Leno came steadily to the fore and showed the way. Spate dropping back. Dan Leno won easily from Shanks, with Pluck half a length behind in third position, time, lmin 32 2-sscc. Sunderland Stakes -Handicap, of to sovs; second horse 10 sovs. ■} mile. Mr. H.
