THE MAYORALTY.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I think you deserve tho thanks of the public for giving a reminder that a now mayor will bo wanted. As a new-comer to Gisborno 1 have been greatly struck by tho backwardness of the town in civic matters. Tho Borough Council certainly seems to be badly in need ol some new blood to liven it up, and a thoroughly progressive man at tho head of affairs is greatly wanted. When 1 asked my friends why they don’t hurry up and nominate a man J am always met bv the same answer: “Wlm can we get 7” This is a foolish attitude, for .1 can’t believe that there are not several men in Gisborno fully qualified to carry out the duties. It seems to me that everybody is waiting for everybody else, and between the lot of them there seems a. likelihood of someone that nobody wants, getting the position.—l am, etc., . “BURGESS.”/ Gisborne, Feb. 13.
