SHIPPERS DISAPPOINTED AT PRICES REALIZED. (Special to Times). WELLINGTON, Fob. S. By tho Moeraki to-day 30b cases of grapes arrived. The quality ol the fruit'is said to be bettor than the first shipment which was sold at auction. Several crates of water melons, shipped at Sydney went overboard durine the storm which the steamer encountered. Pineapples were shipped but wore injured, owing to the rough weather experienced. A Wellington auctioneer to-day received the following memo regarding tin. shipments delate. -Cable to W Ten shillings a case for grapes is no good to us, though of course it seems * lot of money, but look at- the expense to como off. Iho Ma ag Muscatel grapes (of which T sent a case of each as samples) cost mote shillings in Sydney, and anyone in Wellington knows good grapes when seen and they should have rushed those grapes at Sd a lb wholesa e, which would have worked out a- 16* per case. To-day (Ist February) 1 send a shimnent of choice muscats inl2 round fancy boxes, which must Prino- Sd a lb. to clear expenses. I don't think to-day's shipment u l 1 be large, as many were disappoint d l the results of the initial sale at AA el lington? and as for Christchurch the sales there were even worse, i ieckon I lose a shilling a box on my first shipment to WeHiugtou, * three shillings and sixpence' a box on the first shipment to Chnstchuich. so that New Zealand, for all its tut, demand for gripes is no goad •’ nov shippers, as a penny oei H> dut.v and a penny per pound steamei freight is a knock out.'
