POLLARD’S OPERA COMPANY. ■ Tho .above company concluded a most successful season in Gisborne on Saturday night, when the musical comedy, “Ilis Highness the Bey,” was .presented to a crowded audience. The various parts allotted to members of the company were ably sustained, but Bert Nicholson, in the title role, •was easily the star performer of the evening. As on the last occasion when this piece was staged here, the songs “Sunshine” and “The Orange Blossom Land” were the popular gems, and were again very artistically rendered. The company left by last night’s boat, and will shortly embaTk on ‘a. prolonged tour through Australia, where, judging from the reception in the many towns visited throughout the Dominion, their presentations should meet with that measure of success which they undoubtedly deserve.
PERRY’S BIORAMA COMPANY. Lovers of animated pictures and vaudeville are promised a treat on Thursday and Friday next, 13tli and 14th, when the Perry Biorama Company commence their season of two nights. Tho company have had a remarkably good trip throughout the South Island, and arrive hero direct from the Wellington Opera House, where record business greeted them. Tho press reports speak highly of the entertainment, and Mr. Perry reports having received per last English mail a splendid selection of films entirely new to New Zealand, dramatic, sensational, pathetic, and humorous, every description of picture being included in the shipment. An up-to-date electrical plant has also been secured, and a larger and more brilliant picture than has yet been seen in Gisborne is assured. Athos, the King of Skaters, heads the vaudeville programme, and will, in addition to his novel and fantastic exhibitou in the art of skating, introduce for the first time to a Gisborne audience his daring and sensational “Leap for Life.” This leap takes place over a oliasm measuring 15 feet across. Illustrated songs will be rendered by Mss Eva Brady, who possesses a highly cultured soprano voice. Little Lcali, a juvenile singer and dancer, of whom the press sneak so highly, will also appear, and Stan. Chester, a character Comedian with a budget of new songs and gags without end, will also make a re-appearance. The box plan is now open at Miller’s,* where seats may he hooked, also day sale tickets procured.
