press Association. AUCKLAND, Pub. 7. At the Supreme Court to-day Albert Aladdren, aged 32, was placed on his trial, charged with arson and theft at Iviripaka. In outlining the case for the Crown, the Hon. J- A. Olsen, whose money was taken, and brother-in-law to Air. AVetherall, whose liouse was burnt. On the night of the fire, Mrs. Olsen was in her house, which prisoner knew well, having lived there. Prisoner had had some unpleasantness with his brother-in-law, so much so that lie threatened his brother-in-law that he would ‘‘settlo with him another time.” On January Ist prisoner was living at his mother’s house and he apparently resorted to the expedient of setting fire to "Wetherall’e house, and then went over a distance of about half a mile to his mother-in-law’s house. He threw stones at the windows, and getting no response went round to the liouse and knocked at tho door. He aroused Mrs. Olsen, and told her that AA'ethcrall’s house was on fire, and by that expedient he got his mother-in-law and her son out of the house. Whilst they were away prisoner broke into the house, and with a po'ker broke open a drawer in a chest of drawers, containing the money. The prisoner took the drawer and the money away with him. Evidence was given, and the prisoner was found guilty, and was remanded for sentence.
