By change of advertisement readers will notice that Air. Eustace Lane, candidate for a seat on tho Hawke’s Bay Land Board, will address Crown tenants and others in the Gisborne Farmers’ Union Club rooms next Saturday afternoon, and not on Friday, as previously advertised.
Air. Walter Alonk, touring manager for Air. J. C. William&on’s New Musical Comedy Comedy, consisting of 90 members, is finding considerable difficulty in providing suitable accommodation for tho members of tho company, and will bo greatly obliged if any families who have rooms to spare will communicate with Air. W. Aliller a- once.
At the Baptist Tabernacle in Pal-merston-street to-morrow, tho Rev. W. Lamb is the preacher. The subjects are “The Wisest Folk in the World” (morning) and “Some Characteristics of tho Latter Days” (ev'oning). Special references will be made to the murder of the King and Crown Prince of Portugal. Strangers and non-church-goers are heartily welcome.
Considerable interest is being taken in the Welcome Social and Conversazione to be held at tho Baptist Tabernacle on next Thursday evening in connection with the settlement of tho Rev. W. Lamb as minister. Revs. E. A. Kirwood and H. G. Blackie, of Auckland, will be present. The local ministers are to give addresses of welcome. Alusical items will be rendered, and refreshments will be handed round. No charge is to bo made for admission, and a hearty welcome is given to all.
Complaints have been made recently of the destruction of stock in the country round about Gisborno by tho culpable negligence of sportsmen who shoot through paddocks that are heavily stocked with sheep and cattle. Recently Mr P. O’Sullivan had two valuable sheep shot dead at -Matoki, and a day or two ago, his son arrived on tho scene just in time to scare away a sportsman who was blazing away in the direction of a mob of sheep within range. Sportsmen who tako "French leave” to shoot over property, might have a little consideration _ for the stock of tho owners, otherwise they may find themselves mulcted in heavy damages by a court of law.
The No-License League have made a. thorough start with their work for the next licensing campaign. The electorate has been subdivided into blocks,' and a block has been allotted/to each worker. The League have taken the offices in Townley’s •'Building, lately occupied by Mr. Andrew Graliame, and a secretary is to be engaged,, who will always be in attendance to receive reports from, and give instructions to workers. The new organiser is expected to arrivo before the end of tho month. The next monthly meeting will be held on Monday evening in the Wesley schoolroom, when a social will bo tendered to Mr. Palk, tho organiser, who is being transferred to Dannevirke. The League extends a hearty invitation to all interested in the No-License cause to attend the social.
