At tho Supreme Court to-da'v Alfred Crossoy, who was convicted on Monday on two charges of falso pretences. was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. . A BAD CHARACTER. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. At the Supremo Court this afternoon James Vesey, a. man about 40 years of age, pleaded not guilty to three charges of indecent assault. Tho alleged assault occurred in Victoria Park on December 30th last, and lue victims of the outrage are three little girls, aged respectively 6,7, and 8 years of age. Evidence was given to the effect that the three children were playing in Victoria Park, when they met the prisoner, who tampered with them, and then gave them money to buy lollies. His actions were observed by some men, who went up to him, when prisoner declared the children were his own. One of ,th o little girls, however, was recognised hv one of the men. In sentencing prisoner to seven years’ hard labor. His Honor said that in tins Court two years ago tho prisoner had been convicted of a similar filthy assault upon a little girl, and it was quite clear that he was one of those persons who ought never to be allowed, at liborty at all. If it was in His Honor's power, ho would have treated him as an habitual criminal.
AT WELLINGTON. A RECOMMENDATION TO MERCY. Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 5. At the Supreme Court _ to-day Phyllis Ferarro, charged with, assaulting Gustav Tamm with intent to maim him, or inflict ,'grievous bodily harm,- was found guilty of unlawfully wounding, and was recommended to mercy on the ground of the general muddle tnrougn drink among the parties to the quarrel, which led up to the Mounding. Accused was remanded till tomorrow for sentence. Edward Winter was acquitted on a charge of indecent assault upon a girl.

WELLINGTON, Feb. 5. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Roderick McKenzie was committed to the .Supreme Court for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting two little girls. Elizabeth Victoria Shore pleaded guilty to makbig a false declaration regarding the birth, of her child, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
Joseph Daly, alias James Dale, pleaded guilty to obtaining various sums of mo my from clergymen by false pretence . Accused had called on the clergyn u, and obtained money by telling : cries of a sister, who ivas needing I- Ip and guidance. It seemed that : cused was subject to fits, and was perhaps not thoroughly responsible fo: his actions. He was remanded till Friday for sentence.
