MAS TEUTON, Jnu. 81. The rainfall registered for the. month of January was just a little over half an (inch. In January last year tlio record was nearly' five inches, ami in January. 1905, an inch and a half, lfor November and December of 1907 and January of 1908 the total rainfall has boon three inches against 9J inches for the previous corresponding periods. It is hoped the drought lias broken. The weather to-day was much cooler. General rain set in at dawn, and continues to tb" great relief of tho whole community. 'CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 31. .Heavy rain fell at intervals during last night. This morning the roads were damp, but had been so long under a fierce sun that the rain was soon absorbed. By 10 o’clock, when the sun again broke out.- the dav was as ran as ever, and the damp had njnjost disappeared. Tho showers, plover, will do good to pasture and need crops.
