Crawford suffered defeat badly, but Martin’s . team winning with a lot to spare pulled his club mate out of the fire. On the last head Gisborne lay two. Beatson drew second shot and suffered defeat by the one. The games in the Citizens’ Match were commenced on the Grafton and Ronsonby greens, some good games resulting. In their games Carlton suffered defeat.. Crawford’s team were vanquished in the first roiind, Martin’s withdrawing. Martin (Turanganui) also withdrew, his No 2, (Sheet) being prostrated by the prevailing epidemic of cholera. In fact the larger percentage of bowlers are more or less affected with the trouble. Gaudin’s rink defeated the pick of Frtzroy, but had to lower their colors to the Wellington team skipped, by Bell (the holders of the Wellington Feathers) by 10 points. The games will be continued to-day.

CITIZENS’ MATCH. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. The North Island Bowling .Association's tournament was continued to-day in fine weather.. The final of the pennant championship reached. Carlton (Auckland) proving the winners, going right through.the contests without a defeat. Carlton, who had defeated Gisborne on the previous evening, played Hastings today, and won in the .aggregate .bi 46 to 35. Gisborne played Hastings for second place, and Gisborne non in the aggregate by 34 to 33, thu., securing second place m the championship, ajid Hastings third, the prize for the club having least number of points scored against them was *\von by Gisborne, but .as they were played in the championship they were ineligible for the prize according to conditions, and Alt. Eden (Auckland) Club won with 318 points against them. Gisborne had only 314. The preliminary heats in the Citizens’ Match were contested, and the semi-finals will bo reached to-morrow. The Bowling Association has arranged a test match against a New Zealand team. The. match will be played on the Balmain green, on the 23rd. The team •is being selected with a view to as many clubs as possible being represented, 16 clubs having a member in the team. ine AVarriiigah team entertains and plays the visitors on the 27th. (By '''Toucher.”) The absence of the representative teams as well as several other players in Auckland lias quitened things down somewhat on tiio local greens, although on Thursday Gisborne green seemed as busy as ever. Two matches in connection with the singles handicap were played, being won by Zacliariali and Bullock. The former played a remarkably good game and surprised most people by defeating so sterling a player as Seymour without counting bis handicap. Zaebarinh is certainly one ol tlio most promising of the new season s players, and I shall be surprised if he does not givo his opponents in succeeding rounds a lot of trouble. Throughout the week whenever one bowler met another the greeting was (invariably the same: Have you heard anything from Auckland? and on Thursday afternoon the verandah post at the Gisborne Club’s pavilion was plastered with wires received from “tlio front.” , . rr , Though unsuccessful roranganui evidently made a bold fight in Auckland and certainly dul not disgrace the town. They apparently wore slow cutting into the swing of tournament play, but ftit up some great games afterwards.
