SABBATH DESECRATION

ACTION BY AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY. Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 7. Thu Auckland Presbytery to-night returned to the subject of Sunday observance and some wholesale condemnation of coomon practices were made. The committee set up to consider the matter submitted a report in which -it was claimed that tho principles of the clmrcli were flagrantly violated by the occurrence on Sunday of fishing and pleasure excursions, cycle runs and by Sunday travelling by boat-, train, tram or ’bus. It was contended that scores of men were being lost to Christianity by the utter neglect of Sunday worship on account of the first-named. It was time that the use of all boats in the ferry service on Sunday ought to be discontinued by Christians and that- they should not travel by trains on Sundays. . The committee also expressed a. desire to see an end put to unnecessary work in mines, factories and mills on Sunday, and had a word to say about Sunday gardening and domestic work on the same day. Tho suggestions of tho committee were, after discussion, adopted, reciuesting the co-operation of the churches in the matter and deciding to issue a circular to office-bearers, and providing for the preaching of special sermons on tho subject.
