The High Commissioner in London under date January 4th advises that New Zealand mutton is in very limited supply, but the market is weak and inactive, as there are large supplies of River Plate mutton which is being strongly pushed for sale at 3d. No immediate change in the market is expected. Current quotations are:—Canterbury 33d, North Island 3id. Australian 2|d. Australian lamb is in large supply, but is of very mixed quality, and it- quoted at 4Jd. There is good demand lor prim© quality lamb The beef market remains very flat and supplies of River Plate are heavy. New Zealand is at 3fd for hind-quarters and 23d for fore-quart-ers. The butter , market remains firm and there is a general and active demand. Light shipments are expected. Choicest New Zealand, is at 119 s, Australian 116 s, Argentine 117 s, Danish 1245, and Siberian 112 s The cheese market remains firm with an upward tendency. AVhitc make is at 67s and colored at 62s per cwt. The hemp market is steady, but the market prospects are uncertain, and transactions are moderate. Good fair grade on spot is at £2B 10s. fangrade on spot £27 10s, March shipments good fair grade £2< 10s fair grade £27, fair current inaiket £29 per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is very firm and no immediate change is expected. There are light stocks on hand and the quotation is 76s per cwt. for 171 b bright dressed seed. There is a better demand tor woo 1! and prices arc firm.
