The holidays have been marked by the exceedingly large number ol visitors to tho town, and the principal streets last night were crowded, most of the people remaining about until the advent of tho New Year. loMay sightseers have dispersed in all directions, though the Hawke a Bnv Jockey Chili’s races at Hastings attracted •"«”* . .Fine (veatlier. prevailed for the ho|idav. The various sports meetings in the'country attracted visitors from town, and tho marine excursions were well patronised. The Ashburton li|pe Bancl concluded a week s visit to Nelson. demonstrations by the local bunds and a sports meeting being held in their honor. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 1. The town is crowded with visitors to tho seaside. AVKLLINGTON, Jan. 1. There was perfect weather for the holiday, which passed off qtuotljr. Tho races at Tauheremkau and A\ alkaline were well patronised. A laigo number of persons went across to 1 icton bv the Maori. There was the Canteilnirv-AVellington cricket match to interest stay-at-homes, while the harbor and suburban resorts were visited by many hundreds oi picnickers. '
