TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. - Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 1. Owiing to wet weather no games were ‘played on New Year’s Eve in the Taraiiaki Lawn Tennis Association s v championship and handicap tournament at New Plymouth. Tho rain cleared off, however, and play was resumed to-day. The courts weroin excellent order. Tho light was a little chi About six o clock a shower compelled the cessation of play for the day. Some interesting games were played. A surprise packet was the defeat of Miss Nunneley by Miss Kelett Baker, of Sydney m the- Ladies’ Championship Singles. Mii» Baker was right on to her game, but her opponent clearly had a “day off.” In the Champion Singles Fisher meets the winner of the match Parker versus Brown, Quill not quidifying for tho semi-final owing to a strained thigh. Miss Powdrell (Taranaki) and Miss Kellett Baker decide the Champion Singles. Altogether seventy games have been played *oday, and a similar number are to plaj yet.
