ROWING.
'lt is a few years now since there has been so much interest taken in tho double sculling events rowed by the Poverty Bay Club equal to tins season, anil never since tlie introduction of these boats has the , racing been so keen and tho final in doubt till tlie last heat lias been rowed; and it must have been highly gratifying to Air. Seymour, the donor ot the trophies, and also to tlie haiidicappers, Messrs. A. McConnell, lv. and M. McLeod. Some very 'good form was shown, and any one of the three crews left in the final might have been the winner. Personally, i still believe Lowe and Porter tlie best pail' at the handicaps, the stroke leaving his spurt rather late in the final. "Tlie winners, however, H. McGuflio and Tliaxter, deserved their win, having done tho most consistent training, and rowing well together. It is rather a pity that the club cannot be represented at Napier in tins event, there being the material for a good combination, with training anil practice. There is tlie satisfactory entry of 22 in the sculling handicap, which starts on Friday evening, 111-
eluding the cracks, Jones, Nicholas, anit W. MoGuflie, also some of tho coming champions, B. Lowe, R. AJcGufiio, It. Milkiiison, etc., and it is to bo hoped the lNindicappors-, F. Lyford, G. Somerville, and M.. Orpwood, will be as near the mark in their adjustments for this event us were tho gentlemen who allocated the start in the doubles.
