ROWING,

A large number of spectators lined tlio wharf and the ICaiti bridge last evening to witness the final for the sculling championship between. Itees Jones and D. Dustin. The crowd was amply repaid for their waiting by seeing a most exciting finish.. The men got well away from the word “Go,” and from start to finish there was not much difference. Jones was -expected to win “in a canter,” but Dustin stuck to his task gamely, and from the bridge until very near the finish looked a likely winner. His opponent, however, forged ahead about half a dozen lengths from- the post, and gained the verdict by about three-cpiarters of a length, after a fast-rowed race. , . The Henriessy Fours competition (Gisborne Club) was continued, when C. Hamilton had an easy win from -i\V. Johnston bv three lengths. McConnell Bros, and Smith and Clark, of the Poverty Bay Club, also tried conclusions in the double sculls competition for Mr. Seymour’s trophies. The former pair rowed very well, and were declared the winners by a length and a half. Nicholas and Jtoche beat Seymour and W. Williams by about half a length after a good race.' To-night the races will be continued, when W, McGuffie and W. % Barnes will meet IT. McGuffie and Is. Tbaxter, and the McConnell brothers will meet Lowe and Porter, Nicholas drawing a bve.
