THE LATE MR. C. NIELD
F U'NERAL TO-DAY. The iboily of 'the late Air. C. A. Nield, who was killed on tho Tol'aga Lay road on ,Sunday last as the result oi a trap acoident, was brought into town yesterday morning. Tlio funeral will leave the late residence or deceased, in Disraoli-streot, at 2.30 o’clock .this .afternoon.
Alembcrs of tho Fire Brigade, of which deceased was secretary, ami of the Turangauui Lodgo, U.A.0.D., will attend. As a mark of respect the sawmills doing business in town will bo closed from I p.m. to-day. At tlio quarterly meeting of Court William Gladstone,A.O.F.,last night, feeling .reference was made by members of the Court to the death of tho late Air. Nield, who had been a prominont member of friendly societies. A resolution expressing the sympathy of the Court, was passed, and copies are to be forwarded to the widow and also to tho Druids’ Lodgo. It. was also decided that the secretary, Bro. File, should officially represent tho Lodge at the funeral to-day. At the mooting of the Borough Council last evening feeling reference was made to tho death of All*. C. A. Nield. The Mayor proposed that a letter of condolence bo forwarded to the widow. It was a very sad thing, indeed. Ho was an oxtremely enthusiastic member of tho Fire /Brigade, and all .were very sorry to lose him. In seconding the motion, Cr. Sheridan said that deceased had been a very valuable citizen, and one of the most energetic men. Tho motion was carried in silence.
Feeling reference was also made to the deceased gentleman by speakers at. last night’s Alasonic installation ceremony.
