DEFENCE OF THE COMMON WEALTH.

FAVORABLE PRESS COMMENTS. United Press Association —Copyright (Received Dec. 16, 10.59 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 16. Tho Morning Post says that should Mr. Deakin’s proposal be ' adopted, and tho new force sufficiently organised, Australia would soon be a powerful military unit of the self-go-verning dominions. The proposals on the naval side were equally striking. Australia as a building naval power wouffd automatically acquire a more potent voice in the Empire s foreign policy than it could in a purely political re-arrangement. A naval force in a maritime empire was the key to political control.
