ROWING
A goodly number of spectators assembled on Saturday evening to seo the final! for the Schumacher sculls competition (Gisborno Chib), between D. E. Dustin and H. Kershaw. A good oven start was offected, anil tho pair rowed well togothor for a. time, lint coining toward homo Dustin forged ahead, anil eventually won rather easily.
Tho first round of the competition for Mr. R. F. Seymour’s gold medals (Poverty Bay Club) was continued on Saturday evening, when a couple of good races were witnessed. Seymour boat Winter by a quarter of a length, and McGulllo boat Burnett by half a length. B. Lowe won by default from S. Ledger. To-night the first round will In' continued, wiien A. E. Lyford and J. Scott meet •I. Nichoilas and E. Roche, and W. Brokenshiro and R. Huston meet T. McConnell and J. McConnell. To-morrow evening tho races for tho Grieve Sculling Cup, which carries with it tlio championship of Poverty Bay, will ho contested. Considerable interest is being taken in those races, ns each of tlio competitors has boon putting in some good training. Tho first heat will bo roivod at 5 p.m., when J. Nicholas (Poverty Bay) moots D. Dustin (Gisborno). and tho second boat at 5.30, when Kershaw (Gisborno) will moot •Tones (Poverty Bay). Mr. J. Webb will act as starter. Air. Grieve as bulge, and Air. A. Robinson as umpire. The races w'lil take place on tlio Waimata course.
