RIFLE-SHOOTING
At the Kaiti Range to-day the Gisborne Rifles will fire a match of 7 shots at 500, 600, and 700 yards for a trophy (a set of carvers) presented by ex-Soregant Cave. Tlie shooting committee of the E.C.M.R. has decided to hold a shooting meeting on January 2nd. when the Mafeking Cup (7 shots at 300, 500 and 700 yards) will be shot for, and the second stage of ex-Lieut. .Hutchinson’s cup {7 shots at 200, 500 and 600 yards) will ibe shot off, both of which matches count for the Champion Belt. In addition a number of handicap events will be arranged. On some date in February to be fixed later the final for the Champion Belt will be fired, and a match will be arranged for Surgeon-Captain De Lisle’s Cup (for competition by the whole of the Hawke’s Bay Regiment), now held by the Himimua Mounted Rifles. Tlie Gisborne school cadets yesterday fired another match in the competition for the Trafalgar medal. The conditions were 7 shots at 100, 200 and 300yds.
