Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 12. The body of a man was discovered yesterday face, downwards in mud m the tidal basin behind the railway station. It was seen yesterday, but was then taken for a bundle of rails. When the tide came m a constable and two civilians went out in a flatbottomed boat, and with difficulty not it ashore. It proved to be the body of William McFarlane, jHumber, need 49. McFarlane was a married man, but had recently lived away from his wife. How he got to the centre of the tidal basin is a mystery as the mud is from 10ft to -14 ft At a flaxmill at Evans| Flat, a einblo mail, Edward Burnside, while ©ngeged in scutching, was accidently'’killed. _ ■ - n y PALMERSTON N. Dec. 12.. A swagger, who had been observed for the past three days idling round Grace’s farm at Sandon, was yesterday discovered hanging from the branch of a tree on the estate. The name of the deceased is unknown. „
